The Coming Glory

“I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18 (NIV)

Last week, I wrote about the need for us to be still and acknowledge that God still reigns, in the midst of what’s happening around us. I also referenced 2020 coming in and turning many people’s plans upside down. The scenes from the movie you thought your 2020 life would be are...uumm, not quite playing out as expected! Maybe you planned to get married this year, and then COVID-19 came and so did the restrictions on gatherings. Maybe you’re like me and had several trips or a dream vacation planned, but alas the borders are canceled. Or you lost your job and your funds are wiped out and you are not sure how you’re going to pay the mortgage for the house you recently purchased. Maybe you were planning to start a business but that seems much harder given the current financial state of our world.

I am here to let you know that, in spite of what may seem like setbacks right now, you must trust the process because if God placed it on your heart, and it is His will, then it must come to pass. God’s timing is the best and in due season, you will reap what you have sewn. Whatever you’re suffering now does not compare to the coming glory (Romans 8:18).

How do you trust the process when it seems like nothing is going your way and you’re weary? How do you hold on for the glory that will be revealed? You trust and wait on the Lord. In Isaiah 40:31, we are told that “those who wait on the Lord, shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles, and they shall run and not be weary.” God is our strength. As you trust the process and stay obedient to the Lord, He will supply the strength that you need to continue to do good.

He promises this in Gal 6:9 where we are instructed, “Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.” While you’re navigating the duality of doing good and suffering, go deeper in your relationship with God. Spend time in His presence, read His word and hold onto His promises as you navigate the difficult times. Hold tightly to His promises which are indeed “yes and Amen” (2 Corinthians 1:20).

So search His word for His promises and declare them until you see what you heard. For example, if you lost your job during this season and you’ve found yourself struggling and even borrowing money from others to make ends meet. Declare Dueteronomy 28:12 over your life and believe that in the coming glory, you will be a lender and not a borrower. And as you declare that, remain obedient to the Word and commands of the Lord. This is key. His Word works when we do our work.

Reflection

What are you suffering through right now? What plans of yours have been detoured this year? In what area in your life is God requiring you to walk by faith and not by sight? Remember that this too shall pass and that God is not a man that He should lie. That thing that He told you was going to happen in 2020, will come to pass.

Prayer

Father in Heaven, thank you for being God. Thank you for being a good, good Father. Thank you for being the same God, yesterday, today, and forevermore. Father, forgive us for our wavering faith during the times of suffering. Forgive us for not trusting the process when we hit a roadblock. Father God, remind us of Your promises and give us strength when we are weak. Your power is made perfect in our weakness. May Your power fall on us and lead us through the hard times and the good times. Because if we do not give up, we will reap our harvest and testify of Your goodness. We give You praise in advance for the coming glory. In Jesus name, Amen.
